What to expect during recovery from a breast lift.

Table of Contents

In recent years the demand for the breast lift procedure has increased considerably, since in women of middle age or older and after pregnancy, there tends to be some flaccidity in the breast area. Even though this procedure has been an alternative to solve this problem and recover firmness, at the moment of making the final decision and setting the date to perform the procedure many women postpone the intervention because of the time involved in recovering to return to their daily activities, they may consider that it’s too long and that their mobility will be limited.

For a more accurate notion, we will give you a guide on milestones during recovery from a breast lift, remember that times may vary between each patient.

3rd day: On the third day after surgery there is moderate pain that can be controlled through medication. There will be swelling and bruising. Wearing a special bra will help minimize discomfort and protect your wounds. The day after the procedure you can take a shower.

1st week: Activities that do not require much effort are allowed, such as returning to work, among other things. Avoid heavy lifting, bowing and any other movement that involves great effort.

2nd week: After this time you can resume many daily activities without discomfort. Any strenuous exercise should continue to be avoided. Wounds in general are already mostly healed.

4th week: At this point, most patients feel well and are already beginning to perform gentle exercises, but any exercise that concentrates on the chest should be avoided..

6th week: You can exercise without restrictions, sleep on your back and, if authorized by the doctor, wear a bra with rods of your choice.

You should also take on mind the following for a prompt recovery

  • Go promptly to all your subsequent consultations.
  • Use the post-surgical garments indicated by your surgeon.
  • Eat light, nutritious foods and drink plenty of water.
  • Consider at least 1 week off from your work activities.
  • Wear wide clothing, especially blouses that do not require too much movement to put on.
  • Choose someone you trust who can give you essential care. Your accompaniment will be necessary the first 24 hours after surgery. If you have young children, you probably need a caregiver to support you in most activities during the first 2-3 days.
  • Adapt the space of your bed so that you are not completely lying down. This helps facilitate the entry and exit of the bed. Avoid sleeping on your stomach or side for 6 weeks after the procedure.
  • Limit any physical movement such as running or jumping until you are completely healed.
  • Avoid leaning or bending over to see your scars as this position could reopen your wounds.

Remember that the result of surgery depends 50% on you and 50% on your doctor. Following the indicated recommendations, you will have a successful recovery with excellent results!
