Bichectomy surgery

Bichectomy is a minor surgical procedure that involves the removal of two bags of fat located on each side of the patient’s face at the height of the jaw. The commonly called “Bichat bags” when removed give the patient face a better defined and stylized aspect, reducing the volume in this area.

What are the care before and after a Bichectomy?

The patient must maximize oral hygiene. Gums, teeth and tongue should be perfectly clean before surgery as a preventive measure for any infection. Because it is a minor surgical procedure, recovery is usually painless and quick, it’s not necessary to have days for rest and you only need to take care of the alimentary habits, the oral hygiene and follow extrictly the instructions of the surgeon.

Rhytidectomy

Rhytidectomy is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure where the skin wrinkles are removed. Although it can be used anywhere, the most common is the facial rhytidectomy, removing face wrinkles.

Rhytidectomy is also known as face stretching, face lift or face lifting.

It’s a procedure performed in the operating room under general anesthesia. Some incisions are made in the face to stretch the skin giving a younger appearance to the area.

Who is the best candidate?

The usual candidates are men and women around 40 years or older. Since the face is the first to have signs of aging, it’s a way to rejuvenate the appearance and maintain a youthful look.

What should I do before the procedure?

If you’re a smoker you should quit for a while before the surgery. Some medicines, anti-inflammatories, vitamins and homeopathic remedies should be avoided before the surgery since they increase the risks of hemorrhages like aspirins.

Any chemical treatment for hair, should be done at least one month before the surgery, and after the procedure you’ll have to wait month and a half for any other chemical treatment for hair.

The facelift is usually performed on an outpatient basis (discharged the same day), be sure to bring someone who can take you home and be by your side the first night after the procedure.

Recovery time

After the facial lifting the patient can go back to work in 10-14 days and do normal activities in about two to six weeks. Sun exposition is not allowed for a few months and the patient is usually advised to use a full face sunscreen.
