What is otoplasty?
An Otoplasty is a surgery for the reduction of the ears, or to fix the protruding of the ears because it makes the helix get closer to the head. This operation can be done on any person who’s already finished the growing stage (about six years old).
The Otoplasty can be done with local anesthesia or sedation.
The doctor can make a size reduction (make the ear smaller), a projection reduction (if the ear is very prominent), or a lobe reduction (if it is too big or is hanging)
Who is the best candidate?
Any person, older than six years which realistic expectations about the final result.
People who are interested in improving the way their ears look.
What do I have to do before the surgery?
Do not take aspirins at least one month before. Don’t take vitamin E or medicines with that vitamin.
If you smoke, you have to stop doing it at least one month before the surgery.
How long does the recovery take?
The recovery time is about six weeks, but in a couple of weeks after the surgery you can go back to your normal activities, with precaution.
A big recommendation is to have, for the first three days, your head up. In the first month, it might be a little sensitive that area.
